Kidandala disagrees with NUP over vetting, says he will run as an independent candidate

National Unity Platform Organising Secretary Suleiman Kidandala has accused his party leadership of exhibiting unrealistic means in their vetting process for the Kawempe North Member of Parliament flag bearer position.

Kidandala initially lost the flag to Kawempe Lord Councillor Muhammad Ssegirinya, he now claims he is ready to run on an independent ticket.

The former DP organizing secretary while commenting about the decision by his current NUP party to give Ssegirinya the Kawempe North MP flag said it is possible the party made a decision that was not in tandem with the will of the people.

Kidandala was also justifying the move by flag bearers for council positions in Kawempe who outrightly rejected Ssegirinya’s candidature citing his character among other reasons.

The Kawempe councilor flag bearers led by Charles Sserubiri claimed that Ssegirinya is not fit to hold the flag for the Member of Parliament of the area, they demanded the NUP give the flag rather to Kidandala.

“They (councilors) think this is the best decision to take. Do not blame me for it, blame the those that took the decision that was taken that is not in tandem with the people of Kawempe,” Kidandala took a swipe at NUP.

“I can not speak for them, they have spoken, the primary foundation of NUP is that we must move with the people, that’s why we keep sloganeering. If 45 councilors out of 48 have spoken they are speaking on behalf of those they represent,” he added

He also took a swipe at Latif Ssebagala, another NUP member who returned to the Kawempe North MP race as an independent candidate despite abandoning the slot to compete as the Kampala Lord Mayor.

“We are simply saying we have come out openly and clearly to raise the bar upon which leaders are judged, there are no term limits of MPs, it is logical and reasonable that after serving two terms in parliament you can give way,” he said.

Kidandala as an independent candidate faces fellow NUP candidates in Latif Ssebagala, and cardholder Muhammad Ssegirinya for the same post.
